Dr Peter Gregor
Peter is Director for the Digital Media Access Group.
He is a senior lecturer in Applied Computing at the University of Dundee.
Peter has B.Sc and M.A. degrees in Psychology, and worked for many
years in Community Education, where he promoted the empowerment of
disadvantaged groups of all ages and ability levels.
After becoming interested in the use of computers and information
technology to benefit individuals and communities, he studied for and
gained the degree of Ph.D. in Computer Science. In addition to research in
accessibility, computer-based interviewing, and applications for older people,
he teaches human computer interaction, usability engineering and programming.
David Sloan
David co-ordinates the Group's research activities.
David has overseen the production of a variety of publications by DMAG on
various issues on accessibility and usability; he has spoken on accessibility
issues at several conferences and seminars, in the UK and around the world. He
has a particularly keen interest in how accessible design can be reconciled
with the creative demands of the "new media" industry, while other
interests include accessibility and elearning, and web usability issues.
David has an MSc (Distinction) in Applied Computing, and, prior to his work with DMAG, was a digital cartographer with Bartholomew/HarperCollins Cartographic in Glasgow.
Lorna Gibson
Lorna leads the Business Development of the Group.
Lorna's primary role is the co-ordination of our services and as such she is usually the first
point of contact for clients. Lorna has a particular interest in the development of accessible
sites and how accessibility can be intregrated to the design process rather than added on at the
end.
Lorna is a BSc graduate from the Department of Applied Computing and is currently studying for a part-time PhD on the topic of 'Computers and Children'.
Scott Milne
Scott is the Technical Lead for the Group.
He has been involved in the development of a number of web-based resources and
consequently has an active interest in practical accessibility issues.
Scott is a B.Sc graduate of the Department of Applied Computing and continues
to study part-time for a PhD on the topic 'Computers and Older People'.
Louise McIver
Louise is a recent BSc (Hons) graduate in Applied Computing and hopes to continue studying for a part-time PhD. She believes that creativity doesn't have to be compromised when producing accessible websites and is particularly interested in the design and development of multimedia sites which look great while being accessible to all.
Katrina Hands
Katrina has been responsible for the development of web-based computer interviewing systems and so is very aware of the usability and accessibility issues involved. Katrina is doing a part-time PhD which is on the topic 'Usefulness of pre-consultation computer interviews in a GP surgery'.
Katrina has an MSc (Distinction) in Applied Computing, and, prior to working with DMAG, gained extensive experience working freelance for a number of different publishing companies, including Elsevier Science and Harcourt Brace. She was also a project manager for Cartermill International, with responsiblility for CD-ROM production.
Leona Westland
Since joining the group Leona has been involved in a number of accessibility reviews. Leona is intrigued by the number of web authors who fail to value the accessibility and usability of their web sites and is committed to ensuring this trend will change in the near future.
Leona recently completed her MSc in Applied Computing in September 2003. In addition to her MSc, Leona holds a BA(Hons) in Law, Certificate of Professional Development (Distinction) in Astronomy and a National Certificate in Community Education.
Nicola McIlroy
Since joining the group in December 2003 Nicola has been involved in administration and research for the team. Nicola has an MA (hons) Degree in Psychology and undertook her MSc in Applied Computing in 2002.
Nicola's main interests are multi-media authoring, accessibility and usability.
