Workshops

Important Dates

Submission Deadline: Extended to 8th February 2005

Acceptance Notification: 1st March 2005

The programme committee is looking for workshops that offer opportunities for small groups of people with common interests to explore topics related to accessible design in the digital world, particularly the theme "where theory and reality collide; where ideas and practice merge".

Workshops will be held on the first day, Tuesday 23rd August. A proposed workshop should be half a day in length. Design your schedule for 3 hours with a coffee break. You should aim to publicise your workshop in addition to publicity provided by the conference organisers.

Compensation

A fee is charged to each workshop participant to cover the cost of room booking and materials. The workshop fee will be waived for two of the workshop's organisers. Workshop organisers will receive £150 to split among themselves. This compensation is contingent on the registration of at least seven attendees per workshop. Any workshops not meeting their minimum attendance requirements will be cancelled.

Submission Requirements

Workshop submission must be in English and should include three parts:

  1. Proposal
Prepare a brief proposal for the Workshops review committee. The proposal must describe the workshop, the organisers' backgrounds and include a detailed plan for conducting the workshop (before, during, and after). The proposal should mention any plans to disseminate the workshop outcomes (such as poster, article, web site).

All submissions should identify a primary contact of the workshop who will liaise with the workshop chair. Submissions should also include a list of any technology or other support requirements for the workshop (e.g. a screen for projecting, flipcharts, etc), keeping in mind that you may have to bring some of these items with you.

  2. Extended Abstract
Prepare a description of the workshop using a maximum of 2 pages and use the Conference Publications Format. It should contain a summary of the workshop's goals and issues. Successful abstracts will appear in the conference proceedings.

  3. Call for Participation
Prepare a 250-word Call for Participation suitable for publication on the conference web site. It should describe the format and goals of the workshop, the participant selection criteria, requirements for position papers (e.g. page length, topics to address, etc), and where these papers should be submitted. Developing your own web page with additional information about the workshop for potential participants is encouraged.

Submission Procedure

Workshop submissions must be sent by 5pm your local time on Extended to 8th February 2005. Submissions should be in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. Proposals, abstracts and calls for participation should be sent as three separate documents. Email submissions to lmciver@computing.dundee.ac.uk. Please copy your submission to louise_mciver@lineone.net and l.gibson@dundee.ac.uk. Submissions arriving after the deadline will not be considered.

Review Process

Submissions will be peer reviewed by at least three reviewers from the programme committee. Workshops will be evaluated based on their relevance to the conference, their originality and the significance of their contribution. Inclusion of workshops will also be based on establishing a well rounded conference programme.

Confidentiality of Submissions

Confidentiality of submissions is maintained during the review process. All rejected submissions will be kept confidential in perpetuity. All submitted materials for accepted submissions will be kept confidential until the start of the conference, 23rd August 2005. Submissions should contain no information or materials that are proprietary at publication time.

Notification

Presenters will be notified of acceptance or rejection via email on or before 1st March 2005.
