General Accessibility Web Sites
There are many good web sites and articles on accessible web design. Here are just a few, in no particular order:
- WebAIM - Web Accessibility in Mind
- A very informative site, based at the University of Utah. Includes innovative demos of assistive technologies and accessibility problems.
- Accessify
- Accessify provides news and updates from the world of web accessibility. A spin-off from Accessify is the highly popular online discussion group - Accessify Forum.
- Skills for Access - Multimedia, Accessiblity and e-Learning
- A web site devoted to accessibility, multimedia and learning, Skills for Access was the result of a collaborative project involving the Digital Media Access Group and the Learning Development and Media Unit at Sheffield University.
- Guild of Accessible Web Designers
- Founded by fellow Scot Jim Byrne, the Guild of Accessible Web Designers (GAWDS) is an accredited group of web designers and developers with demonstrable exprience in accessible web design. The site provides a number of useful articles and tutorials, plus an opportunity to contact GAWDS members - or even apply to join the Guild.
- Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB)
- The RNIB campaign for increased accessibility of web information to blind and visually impaired users, and their web site provides useful information and resources on the subject.
- Jim Thatcher's web site
- Jim Thatcher worked for many years in IBM's accessibility team. His own site provides advice which helps to addresses many of the issues of accessible web design.
- Joe Clark's web site
- Through challenging articles on relevant issues, Joe Clark is not afraid to spark off heated debate...
- Dive Into Accessibility
- Dive Into Accessibility is a particularly good introduction to accessibility, presenting accessible design tips and how they can benefit specific groups of people.
